Give the Gift of Education - Donations accepted
For most of us College isn't cheap, but with your help it can be affordable. Please give the gift of education and dontate an amount of your choice to help fund my college education. I use PayPal for all my donations, or you can mail donations to me using my contact information on the CONTACT page.
I dont expect anyone to contribute blindly to a cause that sounds worthwhile. If I were to contribute my hard earned money, I would want to know more about the cause, where my money will be going and what it will be funding. Therefore, I wrote a brief biography below about who I am, why I am in college, and what your gift will fund. If you'd like more information, feel free to contact me by mail or email.
A brief biography:
Currently I am attending Clark College in Vancouver Washington, but I will be transferring to Washington State University to pursue a Bachelors in Computer Science as soon as I recieve my transfer degree from Clark. In total, this will be a 5 year endeavor from start to graduation.
Currently I recieve financial aid from the government, however, it only pays for 3 quarters of a year. I am responsible for paying for the 4th quarter (roughly $900.00) of each year which is difficult to do because I am disabled and cannot work. I am also a husband of 16 years and a father of 2 boys ages 14 and 12. It is difficult maintaining a family of 4 on financial aid alone which is why I have created this page.
I became disabled in August 2006 when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was forced by my disease to stop working and needed to find a different way to support my family. A good friend, Scott Lunde, introduced me to the idea of College. I quickly realized I had an opportunity to gain new skills that would enable me to provide for my family in one of the very few ways I could. Shortly after being approved for financial aid I enrolled at Clark College for a 2 year A.A.T. in Web Design and Development.
Since my enrollment in Fall quarter 2006, my academic plans have changed. After being encouraged by many people, including several Clark College Faculty members, to pursue a Bachelors at Washington State University I decided to change my academic plans to include transferring to W.S.U. for a Bachelors in Computer Science. With your help, I will graduate in Fall 2010 with a BA in Comp. Science.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please use the paypal link below to donate an amount of your choice and help support my education.
Is the Cost of Higher Education Worth It?
I found a great article by Eric Digests regarding Higher education and its benefits to our society. This is a great read and explains in greater detail what you are supporting by contributing.
Below are the first two paragraphs of the article followed by a link to the full listing.
The escalating cost of higher education is causing many to question the value of continuing education beyond high school. Many wonder whether the high cost of tuition, the opportunity cost of choosing college over full-time employment, and the accumulation of thousands of dollars of debt is, in the long run, worth the investment. The risk is especially large for low-income families who have a difficult time making ends meet without the additional burden of college tuition and fees.
In order to determine whether higher education is worth the investment, it is useful to examine what is known about the value of higher education and the rates of return on investment to both the individual and to society.
